Saturday, March 12, 2005:  Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts.  Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Dorothy Metzler of Longview; Colleen Cookson and Amanda Crnkovic of Shreveport; Ron Munden of Scottsville; Dickie and Carolyn Luce of Mooringsport; Ken and Debbie Shaw of Karnack; Daniel and Kathy Shaw of Euless; Mason Handsford of Euless; Doug and Judy Parker of Uncertain; Barb Readinger of Karnack; John McCullough of Uncertain; Daphne Teske of Houston; Cissy, JR, Richard, and Robert McCrary of Marshall; Wm. Grady Staggers of Marshall; Debbie and Rick Anderson of Plano; Dotty and Bill Morrison of Plano. 

 

Location:  The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).

 

Weather Conditions:  The morning low temperature was 52 F and the afternoon high was 81 F with gusty winds and mostly clear skies.
 

Number of Nets:  Thirteen (13) 

 

Time:  Nets were set up between 8:15 and 9:35 a.m. and were closed by 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, March 26, 2005:  Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts.  Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Carole Ann Boyd of Dallas; Barbara Hudson of Dallas; Ray and Valerie Evans of Dallas; Ken, Lisa, and Megan Smith of Houston; John and Cindy Bartos of Houston; Matt and Kay Dunaway of Galveston; Jessica Swenson of Galveston; Margie Bivens of Austin; and Diane Jones of Jonesville.

  

Weather Conditions:  The high temperature was 61 F in the morning and the low was 57 F when we stopped banding in the afternoon.  Skies were cloudy all day.
 

Number of Nets:  Nine (9) for one hour; three (3) for four hours.

 

Time:  We started setting up nets at 8:15 a.m. and took them down when rain arrived about 9:30 a.m.  We put up three nets near the house at about 10:15 a.m. and took them down at 2:15 p.m.

 

Next Banding Date:  We may band on Saturday, April 9, depending on Dr. Ingold's schedule.  Plans are firmer for April 16 and May 7 (weather permitting, of course).  Watch our bird-banding home page or check with Tom Walker [E-mail: twalkercaddolaketx(at)att.net] for the latest information.
